From colonial Jamaica to post-war Britain, one family's story enters the Windrush era.

Descendants is a biographical novel inspired by the life of Paul Crooks' father, George Crooks. Growing up in Black River, Jamaica, George comes of age with ambitions that will eventually take him thousands of miles from the world he knows.

In 1957, he boards the SS Irpinia for Britain, joining a generation of Caribbean people whose journeys would help reshape post-war British life.

Drawn substantially from George Crooks' own testimony, Descendants continues the family story explored in Ancestors, carrying it from Jamaica into the twentieth century and the Windrush era.
