About Paul Crooks

Paul Crooks is a pioneer in African diaspora family history research. He was the first to trace African Caribbean ancestry using the 1817 Slave Registers and to present these findings publicly, inspiring thousands of African Americans and Caribbeans to explore their Black ancestry.

His groundbreaking work blends historical research, genealogy methods, and storytelling to empower communities traditionally excluded from archives. Paul’s personal journey spans from London to Jamaica and ultimately to Africa — tracing enslaved ancestors through plantation records and restoring their stories.

He regularly delivers keynote presentations on African American genealogy, Caribbean roots, and Black British history at national archives, libraries, and universities. His publications include both non-fiction and historical novels, helping readers find personal transformation through discovering African ancestry and heritage.
